Whew! The Artist Project 2013 at the Better Living Center in Toronto is over! Thank you so much to those who visited me and purchased work.
I had a very interesting experience with a particular client. Jennifer and her husband Bill bought a piece called “The Red Door”. It was the story as well as the image that caught their attention. I had painted the image from a photo I had taken of a home in Cambridge, Massachusetts while visiting my son who attended MIT. Just outside of Harvard University, the light, the day and the house caught my imagination and are forever imbedded in my mind! Jennifer and Bill have their own relationship with Boston as Jennifer’s dad had attended Harvard and she has qualified for the Boston Marathon several times.
All that being so, the painting was too tall for the desired location in their gorgeous house. ( I got to check it out when I picked up the too tall painting) They have commissioned another version of the beautiful Cambridge home and they found a link to a blog that had photos and told the history of the place! Go to the bottom of the blog page to view and read. Fun eh?

Stages

Some times I am asked what my technique entails. I thought I would show you through the stages of a painting!
Stage one is the preparation of a canvas. I usually paint the canvas red, although lately I am experimenting with hot pink, yellow and orange.
I then draw on with chalk my image and then “ink” it in with a paynes grey or purple paint.
Stage two is colour blocking. I start to fill in the positive, or “foreground” first and then work in the back ground. I find this technique gives a life of its own to the image and movement.
Stage three is the finishing and developing of texture and the final varnish. I will upload a pic of that when I am done.
It is now available!
Thanks for your interest!
